In a strategic effort to address the ongoing conflict with Iran and bolster security in the Gulf region, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed participated in a high-level phone conversation with several regional leaders and US President Donald Trump. This dialogue was centered around diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions and enhancing regional collaboration amid persistent instability.
The call, which brought together influential figures such as Bahrain’s King Hamad, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, and Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, underscored the collective desire to pursue peace and stability in the region.
These discussions took place as the United States indicated progress in its negotiations with Iran, hinting that a potential agreement might be within reach. The possibility of a diplomatic breakthrough offers a glimmer of hope amidst the current geopolitical tensions.
Since the conflict erupted on February 28, the UAE and other Gulf nations have endured numerous missile and drone attacks attributed to Iran. Although a temporary ceasefire had provided a brief respite earlier this year, recent assaults have reignited fears regarding the security situation in the Gulf.
