The United Arab Emirates has expressed support for a United States call for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce in Sudan, emphasizing the need for renewed efforts towards a political settlement. Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of State, affirmed the country’s backing of international initiatives aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and fostering a political process that would lead to a civilian government in Sudan.
Sheikh Shakhboot highlighted the importance of protecting civilians and addressing the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan. He stressed the urgency for a cessation of hostilities and the initiation of a comprehensive political dialogue to resolve the crisis.
The UAE has also advocated for the expansion of the existing United Nations arms embargo to encompass the entirety of Sudan’s territory. According to the UAE, such a measure could significantly curb the flow of weapons and enhance the protection of civilians caught in the conflict.
In its statement, the UAE reiterated its commitment to working alongside international partners to support a political solution that would alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing violence in Sudan.
