Thailand is enhancing its aviation connectivity through new collaborations with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, while also upgrading its regional airport infrastructure to bolster tourism and travel connections. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to strengthen the country’s international aviation network.
Vietnam Airlines has introduced a new route from Ho Chi Minh City to Phuket, which commenced on July 2. This service operates four times a week, providing an annual capacity of approximately 39,500 seats. The move is designed to cater to the increasing travel demand from Vietnam, which saw over 300,000 visitors to Thailand in the first half of the year alone.
Meanwhile, flydubai has started daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok as of July 1. The airline plans to further enhance this route by increasing the frequency to twice daily starting September 15, thereby expanding the connectivity between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
In addition to expanding airline services, Thailand is set to introduce the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at its regional airports. This initiative aims to improve air traffic management, boost operational efficiency, and facilitate better access to secondary cities across the country. The AFIS system is scheduled to be initially implemented at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with potential plans for further expansion to other regional airports thereafter.
