The Zayed Sustainability Prize in the United Arab Emirates has seen an unprecedented surge in interest for its 2027 awards cycle, with a record 10,233 submissions hailing from 177 countries. This marks a significant 32% increase compared to the previous year, as the prize continues to spotlight ground-breaking projects that tackle pressing global issues in climate action, health, food, energy, water, and education through global high schools.
In this awards cycle, winners in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water will each be granted $1 million. Finalists in these areas will receive $150,000. Additionally, six high schools that emerge victorious will be awarded $150,000 each, while their corresponding finalists will receive $25,000.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Director General, emphasized that the record-breaking participation underscores a mounting global call for practical and innovative solutions to enhance quality of life. Notably, over two-thirds of the entries originated from developing and emerging economies, with climate action receiving the highest volume of submissions.
As the process moves forward, the finalists will be revealed in September. The awards ceremony, where the winners will be celebrated, is scheduled for January 12, 2027. This event not only honors the winners but also serves as a global platform for showcasing transformative ideas that address some of the world’s most critical challenges.
