UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, alongside the Rulers and Crown Princes of the Emirates, extended their condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, following the death of his brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid. The funeral took place on Monday, with Sheikh Ahmed being laid to rest at Umm Hurair Cemetery in Dubai after prayers at Zabeel Grand Mosque.
Sheikh Ahmed’s passing prompted a gathering of UAE leaders, including Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi of Sharjah, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi of Fujairah, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla of Umm Al Quwain, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi of Ras Al Khaimah. They assembled at the Zabeel Majlis to pay their respects and remember Sheikh Ahmed’s significant contributions to the UAE’s development.
A 10-day mourning period has been declared in Dubai to honor Sheikh Ahmed’s memory. Known for his dedication to public service, Sheikh Ahmed held key roles such as deputy chairman of Dubai Police and chairman of ARM Holding. His influence extended beyond governance into the realm of sports, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the Jebel Ali Racecourse in 1990 and served as the president of Al Wasl Sports Club.
The UAE leadership’s tribute underscores Sheikh Ahmed’s enduring legacy in both civic service and sports, reflecting his lifelong commitment to the progress and cultural enrichment of the nation. His contributions are remembered as foundational to the UAE’s ongoing development since its formation.
