Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has arrived in Ottawa, marking the start of an official visit to Canada focused on enhancing bilateral relations and expanding strategic cooperation between the two nations. During his visit, Sheikh Khaled is set to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to explore opportunities for deepening economic ties, increasing investment, and advancing collaboration in key sectors.
The discussions aim to build upon the long-standing partnership between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada, both of which are committed to sustainable economic growth and mutual prosperity. Accompanying Sheikh Khaled is a senior UAE delegation that includes Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment.
This visit follows recent high-level talks between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Carney, which focused on strengthening economic and technological partnerships. A significant development in UAE-Canada relations was the finalization of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in July 2026, designed to reduce trade barriers and enhance market access for goods, services, and investments, offering new business opportunities for both countries.
The partnership is expected to foster cooperation across various strategic industries, including energy, mining, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and ports. This initiative is further supported by a UAE investment commitment of $50 billion, announced during Prime Minister Carney’s visit to the UAE. The UAE remains Canada’s largest export market in the Middle East, making this relationship a crucial component of Canada’s regional trade strategy.
Both nations are striving to expand commercial prospects and attract investments while reinforcing collaboration in advanced technologies and other emerging sectors. Sheikh Khaled’s visit to Canada comes on the heels of his recent trip to Greece, where discussions similarly focused on bolstering bilateral relations and economic cooperation. The UAE announced plans for an additional €15 billion investment in Greece as part of a joint initiative.
The Crown Prince’s international engagements underscore the UAE’s broader efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships, expand global investment opportunities, and deepen economic collaboration with key international partners.
